Once again, Dave and I are happily traveling in Gracie (our RV). We have a general intention of going to Acadia National Park (NP) in Maine and to visit as many other NPs as we can along the way. We like to pay conscious attention to what sparks our interest and catches our curiosity as we go.
Our first night out, we made reservations at Elk Mountain campground (CG) near Wind Cave NP. Friendly campers there told us about the various tours at Wind Cave NP. The next day, we took the Natural Entrance tour – we highly recommend it. There was no way we were gonna fit in the 9 1/2 inch hole on the Wild Cave tour.
Since then, we’ve revisited Mt Rushmore and, for the first time, Theodore Roosevelt NP and his Presidential Library . Our base camp for the Library was Juniper CG. As we were settling in for the night, a herd of wild bison meandered through the park. Their grunting sounds were eerie to hear (from a safe distance).
Today we hiked to see some cannonball rocks up close just outside of Juniper CG. Nature makes these giant round rocks in the surrounding sediments before “spitting them out” as is. Fascinating!
