Want to go on a field trip with us?

We recently went on a mini field trip, as opposed to a camping trip, out into the delta region in search of sandhill cranes. Rev Sally belongs to one of the local Northern California birding groups on FB and saw that these birds were being spotted on their migrations south already in the delta region. So, we packed up a light snack, water, and our binoculars and went in search of the area. We found the Cosumnes River Preserve off I5 and wandered about their hiking trails. There were many other nature lovers and birders out that day. Fortunately, we also spotted some cranes flying overhead and were pointed into the direction of the boardwalk where we could (possibly) see some on the ground foraging for food.

We may not be heading out on a camping trip anytime soon, so we’d love to gather a group and go out to this nature preserve together. The hiking trails are well maintained, safe and flat. If you might be interested in joining us for a field trip on October 8th. We’ll be heading out there early in the morning. See you there!

Book Study – Life is What You Make It

Recently, I was reminded of a book I read during my Practitioner studies before ministerial school, Life is What You Make It, by Ernest Holmes. I am inspired to re-read it and would love to share it with others who might be interested in a book study. My intention is to explore each chapter, delving into what gets stirred up for me as I read it. You are welcome to join me in this exploration. Feel free to post your thoughts, questions and responses to the chapter study questions as we progress through the book.

Check out this passage from the Foreword:

At the heart of the Science of Mind philosophy is a practical and direct approach to spirituality. It invites the student to meet life not with fear, but with excitement and a sense of adventure; with the attitude that anyone who understands the ideas of Science of Mind can apply them for beneficial changes in their life. The ideas are both ancient and modern: the outer experience of life reflects the inner state of mind; inner states of mind can be changed; and regular spiritual practice reveals the essential benevolent nature of life. Ernest Holmes summarizes these and additional spiritual ideas in Life Is What You Make It.

  • Summer 2022 Mini-Trip

    Summer 2022 Mini-Trip

Dave and I decided to take an unplanned mini road trip to Denver and South Texas to visit two of our three girls. Wanting something a bit different than the same old route across the country from CA, we decided to head east via Hwy 50 – The Loneliest Road in America. Good choice!

7-10-2022 and Gracie’s odometer registered 56,455.9 miles to date. We’re on the road again! Life loves and adventure.

We got on to Hwy 50 at Fernley NV and have been on it since. Our first night out we found a really sweet spot to camp at the Hickison Petroglyph Recreation Area. I’m not sure I have ever had a more quiet night in a camp ground. There were only three other campers in the park. The moon was so bright and beautiful. Driving through Austin NV, we literally drove over hundreds, if not thousands, of giant grasshoppers that were swarming all over the road. There were some in the park too, so we got a better look at them. Of course, Jackson loved chasing after them.

As we watched the sunset and winded down for the evening, the common nighthawks put on a show just for us. Life in the wild is fabulous to simply watch.

We stopped for a break today at the Great Basin National Park near Baker, NV. The campgrounds there were full and required reservations ahead of time, so we kept driving. Tonight, we camped in the Antelope RV park in Delta UT.

I am always amazed at just how beautiful and diverse this country is, as they say in the Great Basin literature, we’ve gone from an ocean of sage brush to alpine woodlands and high desert scenery in just a few hundred miles. Life is Good. Life is Beauty. Life is Peace. Life is Love.

    Blessed Be!
